I imagine each of you is confined to your home and you are hoping to gradually return to a normal social lifestyle. We realize that, if we work for the salus animarum, governments are doing so currently for the salus omnium civium.
In this context, the Executive Board of the CCLS has been considering the question of the convention in Calgary for some time. We briefly considered the question during our video-conference meetings. Since then, may concerns were raised. The Board met once again via video-conference on April 7. We seriously discussed the issues related to the convention, including the fact that many among us are currently temporarily unemployed, that we do not know how long the prevention measures of confinement will continue and the fact that we do not know how the process of return to normal life will unfold. The bishop of Calgary, H.E. Bishop McGrattan agrees to postpone his invitation and to host the CCLS in October 2021. Father Anthony Pudota, Judicial Vicar and Chancellor and Mr. Murray Briceland, co-leaders of the local committee, are also in favor of postponing the convention. The hotel where reservations were made is also in agreement with postponing the event without any penalty.
The Executive Board has therefore unanimously decided to postpone the convention which was scheduled to take place in Calgary on October 19-22, 2020 to October 18-21, 2021, in Calgary.
However, the Annual General Meeting will take place according to article 9 of the Society’s Bylaws. The President’s report, the Secretary-Treasurer’s report and the Auditors’ report will be sent to you. We will use the electronic methods at our disposal to proceed with the election of the officers whose mandate comes to an end in 2020. You will be informed later, in good time according to procedure.
In closing, I would like to inform you that our colleague, Father Francis Morrisey OMI. was transferred from the General Hospital to Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital. He is aware that he is preparing to meet his Saviour face to face. On April 8, I sent him a message on behalf of the members of the CCLS. A few minutes later – as per his usual response time, no matter where he is in the world – he expressed his gratitude and his Easter wishes. Let us remember this great man and this eminent canon lawyer in our prayers.
I wish each and everyone of you a very Happy Easter even though we must live these celebrations on which our faith is based in a very special way this year.

J’imagine que chacun de vous est confiné à sa demeure et vit dans l’espérance de reprendre un rythme de vie plus régulier et plus … social! Nous réalisons que si nous travaillons pour le salus animarum, les gouvernements le font actuellement pour le salus omnium civium.
Dans ce contexte, le Bureau de direction de la SCDC portait depuis quelque temps la question du congrès de Calgary. Nous avions un peu abordé la question lors de nos rencontres en vidéo-conférence. Mais depuis quelques semaines des inquiétudes surgissaient. Nous nous sommes donc de nouveau réunis par vidéo-conférence le 7 avril. Nous avons discuté très sérieusement du congrès en tenant compte que beaucoup de personnes parmi nous sont actuellement en chômage technique, qu’on ne sait pas combien de temps les mesures préventives de confinement seront en vigueur, ni comment se fera le retour à la vie normale. L’évêque de Calgary, Mgr McGrattan, dans sa bienveillance, est d’accord pour reporter l’invitation d’accueillir la Société en octobre 2021. L’official du tribunal, M. l’abbé Anthony Pudota, et M. Murray Briceland qui sont responsables du comité local, sont aussi favorables à cette idée. L’hôtel où les réservations avaient été faites est d’accord pour reporter l’événement sans aucune pénalité.
Le Bureau de direction a donc décidé à l’unanimité, de reporter le congrès de Calgary qui devait avoir lieu du 19 au 22 octobre 2020 au 18 au 21 octobre 2021 toujours à Calgary.
Par contre, l’assemblée générale sera respectée selon l’article 9 des Règlements de la Société. Le rapport du président et les états financiers de même que le rapport du vérificateur vous seront envoyés. Nous utiliserons les moyens électroniques pour procéder aux élections des officiers dont le mandat venait à terme en octobre 2020. Vous serez avisés plus tard, mais assez tôt pour les procédures.
Je termine en vous partageant que notre confrère le Père Francis Morrisey OMI a été transféré de l’Hôpital Général à l’Hôpital Élisabeth-Bruyère. Il est conscient qu’il s’apprête à rencontrer le Sauveur face à face. Le 8 avril je lui ai envoyé un message au nom des membres de la SCDC. Quelques minutes plus tard – selon son habitude peu importe où il est dans le monde – il a offert ses remerciements et ses vœux pour Pâques. Portons dans notre prière ce grand homme et éminent canoniste.
À chacun de vous je souhaite de Joyeuses Pâques 2020 même si nous devons vivre le centre de foi de manière très spéciale cette année.
