The Centre for Safeguarding Minors and Vulnerable Persons was established in 2019 within the Faculty of Canon Law. Its mission is to help eliminate the threat and trauma of sexual abuse in society and in the Church by: (1) promoting prevention through formation; (2) offering healing assistance to victims/survivors, their families, and their communities; (3) striving for justice; and (4) contributing to reconciliation.
The Centre is the first of its kind established in a Catholic university in North America. It works collaboratively with national and international experts in developing formation programs, as well as unique consultation services, concerning sexual abuse. These experts specialize in the human sciences, philosophy, theology, and canon law. The Centre’s programs and services emphasize prevention, transparency, and accountability.
The Faculty of Canon Law invites applications for a Director of the Centre, who will also teach courses related to the mission of the Centre in accord with personal qualifications. The Director serves simultaneously as a professor in the Faculty of Canon Law.
